JDT's Achievement : It's A Holiday For Johor
Posted on April 25, 2025 by Alya Ariffin
“While Johor celebrates football glory, employers must make clear decisions on holiday observance to stay compliant and maintain workplace clarity.”
Hi everyone,
We wanted to let you know that Monday, 28 April 2025 has been declared a State public holiday in Johor, following the announcement from the Chief Minister, Yang Amat Berhormat Dato' Onn Hafiz Ghazi. This is in celebration of Johor's football team, JDT's recent achievements.
This holiday is officially recognized under Section 9 of the Public Holidays Act 1951. We recommend making an early decision on the holiday observance so everyone can plan accordingly.
Here’s the 411 (what you need to know):
1. If your policy observes all public holidays: You must observe 28 April 2025 as a public holiday.
2. If your policy covers specific holidays only: This holiday is not mandatory and you have the discretion to decide if you wish to observe this public holiday.
3. If you observe the holiday but require employees to work: You can pay holiday rates as per the EA or you may substitute this public holiday with another day.
4. Holiday request: Employees who are absent without authorization on the day before or after the public holiday will not be entitled to public holiday pay. If you are not observing the public holiday, employees who wish to take leave for the football match or celebrations should submit their leave requests in advance. Be mindful of suspicious last-minute sick leave or emergency leave requests!
5. Employees on leave: If you are observing the public holiday and some employees have already applied for leave, such leave can be credited back into their remaining balance.
7. Shift workers: For employees on shifts, please review how the holiday will affect their schedules. You may need to adjust work hours or provide additional time off, depending on your company policy.
If you have any questions or need further clarification, the team is just a call / email away!
